Advocacy at the local, regional, and state level is critical for making Arkansas a safer place for cyclists and pedestrians.

We coordinate with state agencies on implementation of laws and regulations, work to educate people of all ages in order to increase transportation safety, and seek to make bicycling accessible to everyone.

Bike/Walk Arkansas works year-round for more funding, better policies, and new laws that grow bicycling and create safer and more complete streets statewide. These efforts directly affect pedestrians through safer infrastructure for all forms of transportation. Our efforts involve:

  • Legislation.  Bike/Walk Arkansas plans to eventually hire a statewide policy director to work with professional lobbyists in Little Rock to forward our legislative priorities. These priorities will come from our individual members and coalition organizations around the state.

  • Community Campaigns. New policies, laws, and funding for infrastructure is meaningless without the support of individuals around the state. Your voice is critical in order to be successful in campaigns to pass new legislation and to show a need for increased funding.  We need your help in spreading the word and getting people to support various initiatives. Bike/Walk Arkansas will reach out to our members and board members, to clubs and organizations, and to local governments, and elected officials across the state to identify, research, and prioritize key issues for cycling and pedestrians that need to be addressed at the state level.
